The second edition of the UAE University Games has officially started. However, this year, 47 universities across the UAE are competing in the tournament, which is more than 28 compared to last year. Hence, it represents a 68 percent increase in participation from the last year. In addition, more than 2,700 students are taking part in these games. However, it is a rise of 50 percent from 1800 participants in the previous season.
The event was launched at a press conference in Dubai. Now, it is being halted as a milestone in the UAE university sports landscape. In addition, it shows the continued investment of the nation to grow young talent, fostering teamwork, and building a healthier, more active generation.
Expansion Across Sports and Regions
The 2025 edition of the UAE University Games will feature men’s and women’s divisions across three major sports, including football, basketball, and volleyball. Moreover, the total number of matches has nearly doubled from 380 to more than 700, which signals an 84 percent growth in the scope of the event.
The games have also introduced a new sport – Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) — in collaboration with Arabian Warrior for the first time. Moreover, this dynamic sport combines strength, agility, and mental endurance. Hence, it offers a unique challenge to university athletes.
In addition, the OCR competition is going to be held across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. However, the grand finale will culminate in Ras Al Khaimah, where the best male and female competitors from each age group will be crowned champions.
