UAE Weather: Extreme Heat Persists With Temperatures Touching 47°C, NCM Issues Yellow Alert

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) continues to experience intense summer heat as the weather remains dangerously hot across many emirates. In addition, health authorities are requesting residents to take necessary measures because the conditions remain hazardous for outdoor activity with the intense UAE weather. 

Scorching Temperatures Across the Emirates

According to AccuWeather, Dubai is going to experience a hazy sunshine and a peak of 45°C today. In addition, breezy conditions are expected in the afternoon. Now, the current temperature is around  33°C, but it feels closer to 38°C under the blazing sun.

The mercury will reach even higher, to 46°C, with warm and partly sunny conditions in Abu Dhabi. Moreover, evening temperatures are expected to remain around 35°C. Other emirates such as Sharjah and Ajman will also see highs of 44°C, while lows stay at 33°C.

Yesterday, the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) reported the highest temperature at 49.6°C in Jazeera B.G. (Al Dhafra region) at 3:15 pm. So, it highlights the severity of the heatwave. 

Chance of Rain, Strong Winds, and Dust Alerts

Despite the heat, light drizzles or rain may happen over the eastern and southern parts of the UAE on Saturday, August 16. In addition, the NCM predicts partly cloudy to cloudy skies, which could offer some localized relief.  

However, residents are requested to prepare for fresh to strong southeastern winds, which could reach up to 45 km/hr. So, it may stir up blowing dust and sand. In addition, this may reduce horizontal visibility to less than 2,000 metres in some internal and coastal areas between 8 am and 6 pm.

In addition, a yellow alert has also been issued for rough seas in the Arabian Gulf because the offshore wave heights are reaching up to six feet between 6:20 am and 7 pm.

Health and Safety Advisory for the UAE weather

Authorities continue to warn that prolonged outdoor exposure is unsafe. Therefore, Workers, commuters, and residents are urged to follow the tips mentioned below:

  • Avoid direct sunlight during peak hours.
  • Stay well-hydrated throughout the day.
  • Wear light, breathable clothing.
  • Limit strenuous outdoor activities whenever possible.

The UAE is set for another challenging weekend under scorching summer sun because land temperatures are expected to range between 44°C and 49°C. In addition, temperature in the coastal regions is expected to range between  43°C and 48°C. In contrast, mountain areas could experience between 30°C and 36°C.
