UAE Weather Update: Rain, Fog Alerts and Cooler Temperatures Expected From December 26

Residents across the United Arab Emirates (UAE) should prepare for unsettled UAE weather conditions, including rain, fog, cooler temperatures and stronger winds are forecast from Friday, December 26, into early next week.  The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued multiple advisories highlighting changing conditions across coastal, northern, eastern and inland regions.

Rain Likely in Parts of the UAE on Friday

According to the NCM, the weather on Friday will be partly cloudy to cloudy at times. However, there is a chance of light rainfall over islands and some northern and eastern areas. In addition, the rain is linked to a weak low-pressure system affecting the region. Therefore, authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, especially during morning and evening travel.

Fog Alert Issued for Early Morning Hours

The NCM has also issued a fog alert on Friday morning to warn residents about reduced horizontal visibility in some inland and coastal areas. Moreover, fog or mist might form between 5 am and 9:30 am due to rising humidity overnight and into Saturday morning. Therefore, motorists are requested to follow traffic advisories, reduce speed and use hazard lights when visibility drops.

Temperatures Drop Across Major Cities

Friday will bring cooler conditions, especially during the night and early morning. Below is the temperature forecast for the UAE weather:

  • Abu Dhabi: 17°C (high of 24°C)
  • Sharjah: 18°C (high of 24°C)
  • Dubai: 19°C (high of 26°C)

Daytime temperatures are expected to range between 21°C and 25°C in coastal areas, 23°C to 27°C inland, and 15°C to 18°C in mountainous regions. However, cooler temperatures could continue through the weekend.

UAE Weekend Forecast: More Clouds and Light Rain

Skies will be fair to partly cloudy on Saturday, but it could turn cloudy at times due to the possibility of light rain over coastal and northern areas. Moreover, humidity is expected rise rise again overnight into Sunday. Hence, it could increase the chance of fog or mist. 

The weather might turn more unstable by Sunday. Moreover, the NCM forecasts convective cloud formation, which could bring rainfall to coastal, northern and eastern regions. Winds might freshen at times. Hence, it could lead to blowing dust in exposed areas. 

Stronger Winds and Rough Seas Early Next Week

Conditions are expected to become more variable on Monday because of partly cloudy to cloudy skies and a continued chance of rain. Moreover, winds could further strengthen on that day, as they could reach up to 40 km/hr. Therefore, it could cause dusty conditions in some areas. 

Temperatures are likely to dip again as moderate to fresh north-westerly winds develop. These winds may strengthen at times, resulting in blowing dust and sand. However, sea conditions are forecast to be rough in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

Cold Season Officially Underway

The UAE winter season ‌officially starts on December 22. However, many residents have already experienced chilly weather following last week’s heavy rain and thunderstorms. It is the season of relief as the country is popular for scorching temperatures and heat. Moreover, the NCM expects moderate weather with intermittent light rainfall to continue through December 29.

Residents are advised to stay updated with official NCM bulletins and follow safety instructions during fog, rain and windy conditions.
