Surprisingly just Dubai’s vehicle growth rate has surged past 8%, significantly exceeding the global average of 2%, according to the UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail Al Mazrouei. Highlighting the urgent need for updated policies on vehicle ownership and registration, he described the rise as “abnormal” and emphasized the importance of government intervention.
To address the issue, the Ministry has proposed solutions to the Cabinet and is collaborating with local authorities and the Ministry of Interior. Plans include enhancing road networks, improving mass transit integration, and introducing alternative transportation options to ease congestion.
Federal National Council (FNC) member Adnan Al Hammadi raised concerns over worsening traffic conditions, particularly between Dubai and Sharjah. He pointed out that despite previous assurances of engineering solutions, congestion continues to escalate. With 1.2 million vehicles entering Dubai daily—up from 850,000 a year ago—he questioned the effectiveness of current measures.
Al Hammadi stressed the economic impact, noting that commuters between Dubai and Sharjah lose approximately 460 hours per year in traffic—equivalent to 60 working days. Many employees, particularly Emiratis, struggle with long commutes, forcing some to rent accommodations near their workplaces.
Calling for immediate action, Al Hammadi urged authorities to implement tangible, long-term solutions to alleviate traffic woes and improve daily life for residents.
