When Is the Next UAE Public Holiday & Will It Be a Long Weekend?

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is popular for its vibrant culture and a calendar filled with many public holidays that provide residents and citizens with a chance to enjoy. Hijri New Year was the previous holiday in the nation that lands on the 27th of July 2025. The next UAE public holiday is awaited by residents and citizens alike.

Surprisingly, residents in the UAE could experience the next public holiday soon to mark the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). However, the occasion is observed annually in the month of Rabi Ul Awwal. It is recognized across many Muslim nations and brings a one-day holiday for workers and schools across the country.

Notably, this time, there could be a long weekend on this occasion.  Read on to find out how the occasion could give you a long holiday.

Understanding Hijri Calendar

Before knowing when the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) will happen, it would be better to understand how the Hijri calendar works. Notably, you could get many Islamic and national holidays by living in this country.

Months in the Hijri Calendar start with the new moon and follow the lunar cycle. We witnessed the Hijri new year by seeing the new moon on the 25th of June 2025. However, each month of this calendar can be either 29 or 30 days.

We also want to share the fact that the Hijri calendar is 10 to 12 days shorter as compared to the Gregorian calendar. For instance, Eid al-Adha falls on the 6th of June this year, but it could be shifted to the 26th of May the next year. However, the accurate date is going to be depend on the moon sighting.

Expected dates of the next UAE public holiday 2025

As we told you above, the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH )’s birthday will be the next holiday in the UAE. Notably,  the occasion is also known as Mawlid al-Nabi or Eid Milad un Nabi. However,   the exact date for this festival has not been revealed yet. Still, there are two scenarios for this holiday:

  • If the Rabi Al-Awwal starts on August 24, Sunday night, then the holiday is expected to fall on September 5, i.e, Thursday.
  • Suppose the month of Rabi Al Awwal begins on a Monday night, i.e., August 25. In that case, the holiday is going to fall on the 6th of September, i.e, Friday.

Will there be a long week on Mawlid?

As of now, there is no confirmation on whether there will be a long weekend on the next UAE public holiday because it depends on the moon sighting of the month of Rabi Al-Awwal. However, there is a high possibility of a long weekend.

As we told you before, the month of Rabi Al-Awwal could begin on August 25, which could lead to the holiday on the 6th of September, i.e, on Friday. This scenario is expected to link the holiday with the Weekend or Saturday – Sunday. However, you could see the mid-week holiday on Thursday if Rabi Al-Awwal begins on  August 24.

Can the Holiday Be Shifted?

Under the cabinet decision of the UAE, the public holiday except Eid Al Fitr or Eid Al Adha, can be shifted to the start or end of the week. Suppose any public holiday falls either on Saturday or Sunday. In that case, the government may shift it to Friday or Monday. This case could give the residents or citizens in the country a longer weekend.
