The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Sharjah has announced the completion of many road projects that are developed to enhance accessibility to schools and educational complexes across the Emirates.
Moreover, the initiative comes only in time for the beginning of the new academic year because it covers a total of six kilometres. So, it ensures safer and smoother journeys for parents and students.
New Roads Project Serving Major Educational Complexes
According to Abdullah Ahmed Al Ali, Director of Road Maintenance at RTA, the completed projects are going to serve major education institutes in the emirate. The following is the list of those road projects:
- 2.4 km road heading to Al Qalaa School in Hamriyah.
- 1.4 km road serving the Zayed Educational Complex in Muzairah.
- 1.5 km stretch to the Zayed Complex in Suhaila, Al Dhaid.
- 700-metre link connecting to the Zayed Complex in Saf, Kalba.
Each complex is expected to educate up to 2500 students, with full readiness for the academic year confirmed.
Traffic Enhancements Near Schools
Apart from the new access roads, Sharjah RTA is actively working on traffic flow improvement along the University City Road near Choueifat School. The following are the details related to these projects:
- Expansion to a third lane to reduce congestion.
- Redesigned entrances, exits, and parking facilities.
These upgrades are scheduled for completion by August 24. Thus, this development matches the back-to-school rush.
Smart Infrastructure and Ongoing Developments
The RTA said that the refurbishment of the Quran Academy roundabout in Muwailih Commercial is nearly done. Moreover, it is set to reopen next week with the smart traffic signals linked to the central control system of the Emirate.
In addition, major infrastructure projects are in progress between Maliha Road and the Ring Road in Industrial Area 17, where a passenger station for the Etihad Rail is under construction. Notably, this project is developed in partnership with the campaign implementation Authority. So, it will integrate seamlessly with the wider transport network of Sharjah.
Commitment to Education and Connectivity
These projects highlight the ongoing dedication of Sharjah to support the education sector through its strong transport infrastructure. So, the emirate ensures that families can benefit from modern, efficient, and reliable routes to schools and colleges by prioritizing road safety and accessibility. Therefore, thousands of students are preparing to return to school through the new roads.
