The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) has announced that UAE citizens can now renew or replace their Emirate ID in only one step. However, it is a major step towards enhancing the government services. Moreover, the authority revealed the update on Tuesday as part of the commitment of authority to zero bureaucracy and smarter services.
According to the ICP, this new streamlined service will allow you to submit an application and pay the fees without going through many steps. Previously, applicants had to fill in many non-essential fields, such as personal address details, or view the Emirates ID template page before submission. Fortunately, the ICP has removed these steps to make the process faster and more convenient.
Emirates ID Validity Based on Age
The ICP also confirmed that the validity of this ID will be automatically identified after the same system is used for the UAE Passports. However, the following are the criteria for the same:
- Emirates ID will be valid for 10 years for Emiratis aged 21 years or older.
- For citizens under 21 years of age, the validity is set at 5 years when applying for renewal.
- In the case of a replacement request, the new card will reflect the remaining validity of the current card.
The authority highlighted that applicants are not allowed to change the period of validity themselve. However, it ensures consistency and accuracy across the system.

The ICP highlighted that this improvement form is a part of its broader strategy to update smart services, streamline customer journey, and remove unnecessary bureaucracy. So, it reduced the steps to a single process. Moreover, the service aligns with the national vision of the UAE to become a global leader in digital government efficiency.
ICP shared with the Khaleej Times, “Enhancing the replacement and renewal services for the Emirates ID shows our commitment to simplify processes for citizens and ensuring the smooth access to the important services.”
Till now, the process for renewing and replacing the Emirates ID has never been easy for Emirati citizens. So, the ICP ensures a faster, simpler, and more reliable process with the new one-step service. Hence, it is another milestone in the digital transformation journey of the UAE. In short.
