Dubai RTA Opens New Bridge Linking Sheikh Zayed Road to Mall of the Emirates, Cutting Travel Time to One Minute

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with Majid Al Futtaim Properties,  has inaugurated a new 300-meter bridge on Sheikh Zayed Road. So, this new bridge is going to provide motorists from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali direct access to the Mall of the Emirates. Moreover, the bridge is a part of the broader infrastructure upgrade focused on boosting mobility and reducing congestion in one of the busiest areas of Dubai.

The single-lane bridge is created to accommodate up to 900 vehicles per hour. Plus, it is expected to reduce the travel time from 10 minutes to only one. In addition, it is a major milestone in the ongoing effort of Dubai to boost road efficiency and connectivity between key locations.

Upgraded Roads, Pedestrian Paths, and Cycling Tracks

This project does more than introduce the new bridge, as it has transformed the road near the Kempinski Hotel from a one-way to a two-way route that facilitates a smoother traffic circulation. Moreover, the RTA continues to widen the southbound ramp at Umm Suqeim junction and upgrade the junction to streamline access from Umm Suqeim Street to the mall’s parking areas.

In short, the total of 2.5 kilometers of surrounding roads was improved with six signalized  intersections, upgraded pedestrian walkways, cycling tracks, and modernised lighting and drainage systems. According to Mattar Al Tayer, RTA’s Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, these developments enhance efficiency and improve road safety in the area.

Mall of the Emirates – Dh5 Billion Redevelopment

This infrastructure upgrade coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Mall of Emirates and   a Dh5 billion expansion plan by Majid Al Futtaim. So, the redevelopment is going to add 20,000 square metres of new retail area, which could accommodate up to 00 luxury, fashion, and lifestyle outlets.

Moreover, the mall will also introduce a health club, cultural centre, and dedicated dining district. All these upgrades will support its position as the premier shopping and leisure destination in Dubai.

However, the mall was opened in 2005, which attracts more than 40 million visitors yearly. Now, it is a home to three five-star hotels, including Kempinski Hotel, Novotel Suites Mall Avenue Dubai, and Sheraton Mall of the Emirates. Plus, the best thing is that all are directly connected to the  Mall of the Emirates Metro Station.
