Emirates NBD Expands DirectRemit to 40+ Countries, Enhancing Global Money Transfers

Emirates NBD has expanded its flagship remittance service, DirectRemit, to more than 20 countries across Europe, Australia, Singapore, and Hong Kong. However, it is a significant step towards enhancing the position of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in global remittances.

This strategic move boosts the leadership of the bank in digital cross-border payments. Hence, it provides near real-time transfers, 24/7 availability, and cost-effective international transactions through its digital platforms, like the ENBD X mobile app and online banking.

What’s New with DirectRemit

The most recent development of the DirectRemit of this bank has attracted a faster, more secure, and seamless money transfer for the UAE customers who send money to other countries. The following are the key updates in this system:

  • Near real-time transfers with minimal delay or uncertainty
  • 24/7 service availability across multiple regions
  • Competitive exchange rates and transparent pricing
  • Robust global compliance standards ensuring security and trust

These improvements allow the UAE residents to send money instantly to family, friends, and business partners abroad at any time from anywhere.

Empowering Global Connections

The DirectRemit of Emirates NBD was launched in 2014, which has refined the way in which the  UAE expatriates manage remittances. Initially, it was available in top remittance corridors like India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, the UK, and Egypt.

Now, the service has instantly become a preferred choice for millions. These nations represent more than 80 percent of the expatriate population. However, most of them regularly send funds to support loved ones, pay mortgages, or invest overseas.

Yousuf Saeed Mohd, Group Head of Personal and Priority Banking and Retail Banking Sales at Emirates NBD, highlighted the human impact behind the growth of this service. Hence, he said, “Our customers come from all around the world, and their need to send money home instantly, safely, and affordably is deeply personal. By introducing a new near-real-time remittance corridor, we are not just enhancing the corridor; we are connecting people across the continents.

Why It Matters?

The  United Arab Emirates (UAE) is one of the largest remittance hubs in the world. Plus, it ranked second to outbound remittance after the United States. Hence, the need for fast, secure, and affordable digital transfers continues to rise, as million of expats contributes to this flow.

Emirates NBD is set to strengthen its role as a trusted digital banking leader through the new corridors. Hence, it supports the vision of the UAE for innovation and financial inclusion.

The upgrades also used the strategic partnership of the bank with Nium, which is a global fintech company specializing in cross-border payments. So, this collaboration boosts the reliability and scalability of the digital infrastructure of DirectRemit. Hence, it enables faster payments to an even broader network of countries.

How Customers Benefit

The UAE customers are going to enjoy the following benefits with this change:

  • Instant transfers to more destinations worldwide
  • No need to visit branches — transfers can be done via the ENBD X app or online banking
  • Transparent fees and exchange rates, avoiding hidden costs
  • Peace of mind with Emirates NBD’s secure global network
