Dubai Air Taxi Service to Operate Like Daily Public Transport

Dubai is getting ready to introduce the Dubai Air Taxi service soon. However, officials have cleared one thing that it is not a luxury or tourist-only experience. According to Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of the Public Transport Agency at RTA, the upcoming system is being created as a core part of the daily mobility ecosystem of Dubai. Bahrozyan emphasised that the ambition is to make air taxis as accessible and practical as buses or the Metro in the future, while speaking at the Dubai Airshow 2025.

RTA’s Vision: Air Taxis Integrated Into Daily Commutes

Dubai Air Taxi Service to become daily transport

Bahrozyan said that the collaboration of Dubai with Joby Aviation and Skyports Infrastructure goes far beyond showcasing cutting-edge technology. However, the plan is to create a transport system that can eventually offer citywide coverage.

He said, “We are not doing a service just to take a few tourist rides or a few businesspeople from point A to point B. Instead, we want this service to be a very important part of mobility in the city of Dubai.”

The long-term strategy intends tens of vertiports across Dubai. Hence, it allows residents to use air taxis much like any other mode of public transport.

Citywide Network of Vertiports Underway

The development of the network of vertiports is one of the biggest steps towards this vision. However, these vertiports are dedicated take-offs and landing hubs for Dubai Air Taxi Service.

Flagship Hub: Dubai International Vertiport (DXV)

The Dubai International Vertiport (DXV) will act as a primary hub for the air taxi ecosystem. However. The DXV is currently under construction near the Dubai International Airport. Below are the details related to this vertiport:

  • It is designed for up to 42,000 landings annually
  • It is built for long-term adoption and mass passenger movement
  • It is structured to support future increases in aircraft numbers

The Dubai RTA expects demand to grow and operational costs to fall as the system scales. Hence, it will make air taxi trips more affordable and accessible to the wider community.

First Phase: 4 Vertiports and Limited Aircraft

The rollout is going to begin slowly. However, it will include a strong strategic direction. Below is the list of initial vertiports for the Dubai Air Taxi Service:

  • Dubai International Vertiport (DXV)
  • American University of Dubai
  • Atlantis The Royal
  • Dubai Mall

These stations are going to provide you with high-speed and emissions-free connections between some of the most significant landmarks in Dubai. The six-year agreement of Joby Aviation with Dubai is going to support the development, operation, and scaling of the first electric air taxi service of the emirate.

Joby Aviation Hits Major Milestones

Dubai Air Taxi Service to Operate Similar To Public Transport

Recently, the company achieved a historic flight test. Hence, it becomes the first electric air taxi company to complete a point-to-point flight in the UAE. Moreover, its aircraft is currently being displayed at the Dubai Airshow 2025. Hence, it visitors a first-hand look at the future of urban mobility. However, the aircraft promises the following facilities:

  • Zero direct emissions
  • Quiet vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) capability
  • Rapid intra-city travel

These factors position Dubai as a global leader in innovative, sustainable transport.

Dubai Air Taxi Service to Become as Common as Buses, Says RTA

The long-term goal of Dubai is clear – a full-scale network across Dubai. Bahrozyan explained, “From Day 1, we will have 4 vertiports with only a few aircraft. However, the network will expand slowly. Eventually, it will be similar to a bus network where you have 10 stations across the city.”

He further added that the transformation will take time, but the ambition and vision are fully in place. In short, you should be ready to reach your destination with Dubai Air Taxi Service.
