The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that the Oud Metha and Al Asayel Streets Development Project is now 90% complete. This extensive undertaking will increase the capacity of Oud Metha Street by 50%. Once the full project is operational, travel times along this vital corridor will drop from 20 minutes to just five minutes, offering a 75% reduction in travel time for motorists.

Details of the Newly Opened Three Lane Bridge

A high capacity three lane bridge is now open to streamline traffic from Al Khail Road.

As part of this ongoing expansion, the RTA officially opened a major three lane bridge on Sunday, July 26. This structure directly serves motorists travelling from Al Khail Road towards Al Asayel Street via Al Wasl Club Street. The bridge has been engineered to accommodate up to 3,600 vehicles per hour, greatly enhancing Al Khail Road traffic flow.

Tunnels and Bridges Opening by August

Two new tunnels and a left turn bridge will open to traffic by the end of August.

The authority confirmed that two new tunnels and another bridge are scheduled to open by the end of August. These strategic additions aim to resolve traffic overlaps and streamline access across busy corridors

• First Tunnel: Connects the service road on Oud Metha Street to the Sheikh Rashid Road intersection for motorists heading towards Bur Dubai.
• Second Tunnel: Directs traffic from Dubai Al Ain Road towards Al Wasl Club Street to eliminate current traffic bottlenecks.
• Additional Bridge: Serves left turn traffic moving from Al Asayel Street towards Oud Metha Street.

Two strategic bridges were successfully opened during the first quarter of the year.

This progress builds upon two bridges opened by the RTA in the first quarter of 2026. These earlier structures laid the groundwork for overall network expansion under ongoing RTA road projects

• Oud Metha Intersection Bridge: A two lane bridge at the intersection of Oud Metha Street, Al Asayel Street, and Al Wasl Club Street, handling 2,400 vehicles per hour.
• Al Khail Connector Bridge: A bridge located at the intersection of Al Wasl Club Street and Al Khail Road, serving drivers heading towards Business Bay.

Scope of Infrastructure and Affected Areas

The project features 14 km of roads, 4.3 km of tunnels, and improved access to key urban sectors.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, stated that the scheme involves improving four major intersections, constructing bridges and two tunnels totaling 4.3 km, and expanding roads spanning 14 km. These upgrades provide an essential Oud Metha Street new bridge connection and overall road enhancement.

The works improve connections between Oud Metha Street, Sheikh Rashid Road, Al Asayel Street, Al Khail Road, and Dubai Al Ain Road through new service roads, extra lanes, and enhanced ramps. The project supports several residential, service, and commercial zones including:

• Zabeel
• Al Jaddaf
• Oud Metha
• Umm Hurair
• Latifa Hospital
• Al Wasl Club
