UAE Visa Ban Update: Bangladesh Embassy Confirms No Official Restriction

The officials have dismissed reports circulating online about a UAE visa ban update on Bangladeshi nationals as inaccurate and misleading. However, Tareq Ahmed, Bangladesh’s Ambassador to the UAE, clarified that the UAE authorities have issued no such directive.

Moreover, he highlighted that the information spreading across social media and some websites is not based on any official government sources. Ahmed Ambadsdor said, “The UAE has not announced any visa ban for Bangladeshi citizens. The reports are inauthentic and not attributed to the UAE government officials.”

UAE Visa Ban Update: Clarification on Misleading Reports

The confusion comes from a post on a visa processing website, which cited an alleged immigration circular. Moreover, the UAE would stop accepting visa applications from nationals of Bangladesh and many other nations. However, the embassy has confirmed that no such circular exists on the official website.

While speaking to The Business Standard, Ambassador Ahmed warned that the post could be malicious and urged the expatriates to stay cautious until an official statement is released. Moreover, he highlights that neither the embassy nor the Bangladeshi consulate in Dubai has received any formal communication regarding the visa restriction.

Importance of Verification in News Reporting

The controversy once again highlights the danger of misinformation in the digital era. Hence, Lutfey Siddiqi, Special Envoy for International Affairs to the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh, has criticized some Bangladeshi media outlets for publishing the story without verification.

Moreover, he requested the mainstream media to verify information directly with the government officials before publishing. Siddiqi wrote on Facebook.”Disinformation is often circulated during sensitive times such as elections. Journalistic integrity requires verification, not replication of unverified claims.”

Bangladeshi Community in the UAE

Bangladeshis create one of the largest expatriate groups in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). According to Global Media Insight, there are around 0.83 million Bangladeshi nationals in the country, which represents 7.4% of the population of the nation. Moreover, other estimates place it closer to the one million figure.

In addition, they are the third-largest foreign community after India and Pakistan. The Bangladeshi government has been in ongoing conversation with the officials of the UAE to strengthen bilateral relations and further ease the visa process.

What should Bangladeshi expats do now?

As of now, there is no UAE visa ban on Bangladeshi nationals. Hence, the Bangladesh Embassy in Abu Dhabi has confirmed that reports are fake and stem from misleading sources. Residents and applicants are advised to only depend on updates from the official government channel.
